Most massage you’ve had probably followed a routine. You arrive, you lie down, the therapist works through a set sequence. Sometimes it helps. Sometimes it doesn’t.
Clinical neuromuscular massage works differently. It begins with assessing how your body is moving, where it’s holding, and what may be contributing to the pain or tension you’re experiencing.
What it is
Clinical neuromuscular massage — also called clinical neuromuscular therapy — is a hands-on treatment approach that focuses on how muscles, nerves, joints and movement patterns interact to influence pain, tension and function. Same work, two names. You will see both used here.
HOW I WORK
My approach is built on a simple idea — your body is a system, not a collection of separate parts.
I use therapeutic-grade essential oils and creams as part of the hands-on work, chosen for what suits you on the day. Most people find them settling. If you would rather I did not use them, that is completely fine — just say.
WHO I WORK WITH
Three kinds of people tend to find me:
- People living with persistent pain who have already seen other practitioners, and are tired of starting again from the beginning.
- People who are not in pain and would like to keep it that way — looking after a body they rely on.
- Active people, athletes and horse riders, who want their body working as one connected system rather than a set of separate parts.
Through BodyMOT Systems™ training with Dr Jo Abbott, I can support bigger-picture conversations about hydration, whole-food eating, and how lifestyle may influence pain.
Booking & Pricing
Initial session
(90 minutes to 2 hours)
$180
Follow-up session
(60 minutes)
$130
Maintenance session
(45 minutes)
$110
Plese note:
- I don’t book initial sessions to a stopwatch. Assessment takes as long as it takes, and being hurried is the last thing a sore back needs. Most initial sessions run between 90 minutes and two hours, for one price.
- A shorter session for established clients who are progressing well and want to keep things ticking over. Not a first appointment.
- ACC is not available for these sessions, though I’m happy to work alongside any ACC-funded care.
If Your Back Pain Keeps Coming Back
For some people, neuromuscular work is all they need. The tension shifts, the movement returns, and life goes on.
For others, hands-on work uncovers something bigger. We treat the area, the tension settles for a week, and then it’s back. When that happens, we’re usually not looking at a tension problem any more.
That’s where RESET™ Coaching comes in.
Alongside my hands-on practice, I’m a New Zealand-based RESET Coach™, supporting people through Dr Jo Abbott’s Back Pain Systems™ RESET™ Coaching.
